A Red Eyes is an item that first appeared in Crash Nitro Kart for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube, where they were originally called Red Eye Missiles. They are missiles that have a mouth and a pair of eyes.

History[edit]

Crash Nitro Kart[edit]

In Crash Nitro Kart for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube, Red Eye Missiles have a similar appearance and behavior to Homing Missiles, as both are power-ups that explode on contact and knock over players. However, there are a few differences between Red Eye Missiles and Homing Missiles. Red Eye Missiles can only be used in battle arenas. They also come with a video monitor and a remote control, as opposed to Homing Missiles. As such, the player who fires the Red Eye Missile can only use the D-pad or the left analogue stick to steer it. If juiced up, the player can steer the Red Eye Missile more easily. Likewise, Red Eye Missiles that make contact with anything while the player is juiced up will explode in a bigger blast radius.

The loading screen image for Electron Avenue features three Red Eye Missiles being fired at Nitros Oxide in the race track; this is not true in all tracks, however.

Crash Bandicoot: On the Run![edit]

After 17 years of absence, Red Eyes appear in Crash Bandicoot: On the Run! under the current name. In this game, they are not only an ingredient used to make Inferno weapons, but also just a component of a complete Red Eyes itself.

Instruction manual

Fire off this super warhead to track down your enemies wherever they go! This special version of the homing missile comes with a remote control and a video monitor. Once you fire it off, you can press the fire button again to take control of it. You'll be able to see from a camera in the nose of the missile. Steer it towards your enemies using the left analog stick. If it hits a wall or a kart, it will explode, damaging anyone nearby. But remember, you can't drive around while you steer the missile, which makes your kart a sitting duck! You'll pick up this special missile in only battle mode.

Juiced – The explosion from the missile is even bigger, and the missile is easier to steer.
